The problem: beta testing pays nothing

Discord betas reward you with an "alpha tester" role. Steam Next Fest gives you 30 minutes of someone's prototype and nothing else. PlaytestCloud pays $5–15 per session for a qualitative opinion that disappears into a spreadsheet nobody reads.

Your time as a player has never been worth what it could be — because no platform has ever built a system that makes behavioral data from players as valuable as it actually is.

What you actually earn on Gameformers

CD keys — every completed test session earns you a Steam CD key for the game you tested, or a reward key from the studio's catalog.

Reputation Points — a persistent track record of your testing quality. Clean sessions (completed tasks, returned D1/D7, honest user surveys) accumulate Reputation Points that signal your behavioral reliability to the platform.

Forge fast-track — high-reputation players get priority access to The Forge. Playing isn't just a hobby — it's the application to become a developer on a funded game.

What a session looks like

You claim a test from the available pool. The studio sets specific structured tasks — reach a checkpoint, complete a level, try a specific mechanic. You play the game, complete the tasks, and return the next day (and in 7 days if the game is still running).

After the D7 window, you answer a Sean Ellis user survey: "How would you feel if you could no longer play this game?" Your behavioral signals — playtime, achievement timestamps, return rate — are verified automatically via Steam. You can't fake them. That's what makes your data worth something.

The path to The Forge

The Forge is where INVEST-verified games find their development teams. Players with strong Reputation Scores — consistent D7 return rates, high task completion, clean PMF data — get fast-tracked into The Forge application pool.

If you're a developer, artist, or designer who also playtests, your Reputation Points are the proof that you understand games from the player's side. That's a signal no portfolio piece can replicate.
